Yes Dear Turtlies ,
I had to make a little break as I had muscles springing from muscles and I was transforming into an alien Turtle . Quite strange really .
Besides that and even more worrisome , my house was getting too clean and too tidy . I simply couldn’t let that happen , my poor dogs (and the one who calls himself my husband) were already conspiring to flee the premises . And I just couldn’t let them find themselves alone in the streets again (the dogs , I mean) .
So I did slow down for a bit , just for a few days and got myself reading … yes , again .
But not books this time 🙂
I’ve been trying to catch up with you and read some very interesting blog posts that were hanging around in my in-box screaming for my attention for quite awhile .
And aren’t you quite an interesting bale (as in group of turtles) . No , I’m not calling you names !
For me you are my dear turtlies and I looked it up and a group of turtles is called a bale or a herd but for sea turtles the most used is bale . Besides bale brings to my mind a certain Christian and he is quite good looking I must say 🙂
And although we’ve somehow built a rather cohesive group of bloggers among ourselves ( as I tend to see the same people everywhere I visit ) most of us have a small cluster of blogs we follow that don’t belong to the let’s say big pool .
Some of us have a special interest in music , or knitting , or skiing , or dogs , or Lego , or anime , or chocolate (are there any blogs just about chocolate ? ) or farming , or ……. So there are all these little circles outside our main pool with very interesting people , that we might stumble upon eventually or never find out about .
One such case is my friend Cameron McCulloch who writes at TheWorld’sBiggestFridgeMagnet .
I must confess it was the cool (no pun intended) name of his blog that first caught my attention ; but his comments (so very sweet and full of understanding and good common sense advice all wrapped up in just the right dose of humour) on another blogger’s comment box were what made me look him up (I mean visit his blog) . I just had to find out more about what appeared to be a great guy .
And so I went , I got magnetized (sorry …I had to use it 😉 ) and “followed” . And I’m still trying to catch up with his posts .
You see , Cameron has been writing every single day for over an year now , telling his story of how he became morbidly obese and the adventure he set himself to on his quest to regain his health .
He shares all he has learned on the reasons why an athletic good looking (my opinion) still young guy starts putting on weight to such a point where even walking becomes difficult , and how he decided that he had to take the opportunity to go through bariatric surgery . Then the work he had to put in to be accepted for surgery and how he adopted the good habits that kept him getting slimmer and healthier .
Now that he has lost more than 140 lbs by changing his ways , he is going on another adventure starting this Sunday 12th , when he sets out to walk the 87 miles of the beautiful Ridgeway ( Ridgeway National Trail is an ancient trackway believed to be the oldest road in England ) .
He will have for company his pal Archie (his dog) , and anyone who wants to join him (itinerary on his blog) and show their support .
Last but certainly not the least Cameron will be raising money for HENRY ( a charity dedicated to educate and prevent childhood obesity by working with families with young children ) , and if this is an issue that speaks to you and you feel you could have one less coffee or something 😉 this week and send it their way all the details are on the blog itself .
If you’re still with me , and your eyes not glazing over my ramblings , I would really really appreciate you take a look into TheWorld’sBiggestFridgeMagnet and see what I’m talking about 🙂
Now I’ll go back to reading my friend Cameron’s suggestions and see if he is the one who can get some good sense into This Turtle head and make me abandon some very bad habits that have been wreaking havoc with my health 🙂

Would it be OK if I shared this–and therefore Cameron’s story–on my blog?

Thank you for asking 🙂
It would be more than OK , it would be swell if Cameron’s story got a whole lot more exposition 🙂

(and not a little like on my previous reply 😉 it was just a figure of speech 😦 and dumb turtle still hasn’t learned how to properly edit comments )

Cameron has given much over the past year, shared the lows and highs and mundane middles and what he is about to embark on is quite remarkable when you consider that less than 18 months ago he could not walk up his own short staircase without resting halfway up. I’m so glad you highlighted his blog for others to find.

Turtle, very nice of you to mention Cameron. As I already follow his blog, yes everything you wrote is completely true. What a wonderful gentleman he is and an amazing journey he is on. Hope your day is a happy one – from a little turtle in the bale. 🙂
